Why We Exist

Most home product reviews are written by people who haven’t used the products — or worse, by the brands selling them. Home Essentials Lab was built as the antidote to that problem. We don’t accept press samples. We don’t publish rankings for hire. We buy everything at retail, test it in real homes, and publish what we actually found, including the things brands would rather we didn’t.

Our researchers operate anonymously by design. When brands can’t identify who’s testing, they can’t send pre-release units, pitch replacements, or pressure for favourable coverage. Anonymous testing is how we protect the integrity of every evaluation we publish.

What We Cover

Home Essentials Lab evaluates products across four core categories chosen because they represent the everyday spending decisions most households get wrong at least once.

• Home Scent & Freshness — Diffusers, plug-in alternatives, air purifiers, odor eliminators
• Kitchen Tools — Scales, thermometers, prep tools, storage solutions
• Small Kitchen Appliances — Air fryers, blenders, rice cookers, countertop appliances
• Cleaning & Care Gear — Vacuums, mops, stain removers, floor care systems

Each category has a dedicated research division with its own testing criteria and evaluation standards.

How We Test

Every product goes through a minimum 45-day evaluation before any recommendation is published. Testing covers performance under real conditions, durability over extended use, usability across different household setups, and long-term cost of ownership. We measure what can be measured — noise levels in decibels, suction retention over time, thermal consistency across cooking cycles, scent longevity across different room sizes. Where objective measurement isn’t possible, we document the criteria and apply them consistently across every product in a category. Full methodology is published. Nothing is hidden.

Our Commitment to Independence

Home Essentials Lab does not accept payments for reviews, sponsored editorial placements, or any commercial arrangement that creates an incentive to rank products favourably. All products are purchased at full retail price.

We earn revenue through affiliate commissions when readers purchase through our links — primarily through Amazon Associates and similar programmes. These commissions fund our testing operations. They do not determine what we recommend, how products are ranked, or what scores they receive. If a product fails our testing protocol, we don’t recommend it. Commission rates play no role in that decision.
