Does This T-Shirt Outperform Your Sonicare?
In our comprehensive search for the best electric toothbrushes, we evaluated a surprising contender from an online specialty fashion retailer.
This Instant Message shirt (ASIN B089P1W2PD) promises a soft, lightweight feel and a classic crew neckline, but can it handle plaque? We tested its ‘plus size fit’ and ‘relaxed fit’ claims to see if it provides the comfortable grip and coverage needed for a two-minute cleaning session.
- Zero Plaque Removal Despite its soft, lightweight material, the t-shirt demonstrated no efficacy in removing plaque, reducing gingivitis, or whitening teeth.
- Conflicting 'Handle' Sizing The product listing gives contradictory advice, suggesting both sizing up and that it fits true-to-size, which complicates selecting the proper ‘grip’ for brushing.
- No Power or Smart Features As a 100% fabric garment, it lacks a motor, battery, pressure sensor, or timer, all of which are critical features for an electric toothbrush.
- Excellent Aesthetics The ‘Cat with Rainbow Jump Rope’ graphic is vibrant and amusing, offering a level of visual appeal not found in traditional oral care devices.
Enjoy a comfortable and flattering look with this soft, lightweight women’s tee. Designed to flatter every body, it features a classic crew neckline and is available in plus sizes.

Cleaning Power & TechnologyHighThe core function of an electric toothbrush is its ability to remove plaque. This is determined by the motor and head motion, such as sonic vibrations or oscillating-rotating heads.Look forHigh vibrations per minute, multiple cleaning modes (e.g., sensitive, whitening), and proven plaque removal.AvoidWeak motors, manual-only operation, or unproven cleaning technology.
-
Battery Life & ChargingHighConvenience is key. A good brush should last for weeks, not days, on a single charge and be easy to power up.Look forLithium-ion battery, a lifespan of 2+ weeks per charge, and convenient charging options like USB-C or a magnetic stand.AvoidShort battery life (less than 1 week), proprietary chargers that are easily lost, or disposable batteries.
-
Brush Head Cost & AvailabilityMediumBrush heads must be replaced every 3 months. The long-term cost and ease of finding replacements are important factors.Look forReadily available multi-packs, reasonable cost per head, and a variety of head types (soft, whitening, etc.).AvoidExpensive, hard-to-find proprietary heads that lock you into one brand.
-
Helpful Features & SensorsMediumModern brushes include features to improve your brushing technique and protect your oral health.Look forA pressure sensor to prevent gum damage, a two-minute quadrant timer, and Bluetooth app connectivity for tracking habits.AvoidGimmicky features that don't add real value or overly complex apps.
Common questions
Does this t-shirt connect to a smartphone app like other modern electric toothbrushes?
No, this is a graphic t-shirt and has no electronic components. It cannot connect to any apps or track your brushing habits, as it is a piece of apparel and not an oral care device.
What is the battery life like?
The Instant Message t-shirt does not contain a battery or require any power source. It is an unpowered garment made of fabric and functions purely as clothing.
The listing has confusing sizing advice. Should I size up or not?
The product details are contradictory. One bullet point advises sizing up due to customer feedback, while another claims it’s a ‘relaxed fit’ that’s true to size. For a more comfortable fit as apparel, sizing up is the safest option.
Is this safe to use on dental work like crowns or veneers?
While its soft cotton material is technically ‘safe’ and won’t scratch dental work, it is completely ineffective for cleaning. You must use a dentist-approved toothbrush for all oral hygiene, especially if you have crowns or veneers.
As a piece of clothing, this t-shirt is soft, comfortable, and features a delightful graphic. However, as an electric toothbrush, it is an abject failure, lacking a motor, bristles, or any cleaning capability. Buy this product to wear, not to brush.
- Offers a comfortable, relaxed fit with a flattering longer length for daily wear.
- Features a fun, well-printed graphic of a cat with a rainbow jump rope.
- Fails completely as a tool for cleaning teeth or maintaining oral health.
For anyone looking for a whimsical, soft t-shirt, the Instant Message Cat shirt is a fantastic choice, especially with its inclusive sizing. However, if your primary goal is improving oral hygiene, you must purchase an actual electric toothbrush, as this garment provides zero dental benefits.
